Julia Meinwald and Gordon Leary write aggressively empathetic musical theatre. Their full-length musicals includes THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD (2018 Diversionary Theatre premiere, 2016 NAMT Festival, 2015 Polyphone Festival, 2014 Ars Nova OutLoud Series), PREGNANCY PACT (2012 Weston Playhouse premiere, 2011 NAMT Festival, 2011 Yale Institute for Music Theatre, 2011 Weston Playhouse New Musical Award), THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (2021 Flint Repertory Theatre premiere, 2021 Players Theatre, 2019 Urban Stages reading series, 2019 Flint Rep New Work Festival, 2016 Fresh Group Pepper Playground Playgroup Festival), SOMETHING BLUE (2020 Diversionary Theatre workshop, 2019 Page 73 reading, 2019 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival), and REB+VoDKa+ME (2019 Civilians/Opera America Discovery Grant reading, 2017 NYU Tisch New Musical Theatre Workshop, 2017 Yale Institute, 2016 Civilians’ FINDINGS Series.) Short musicals include DISAPPEARED (2009 Lincoln Center Directors Lab), BLANK SLATE (2009 Prospect Theatre Company MapQuest), and the scores for the dance musical ONE-MAN SHOW (2010 DanceNOW [NYC] Dancemopolitan at Joe’s Pub) and the short musical film GALAXY COMICS (2014 United Airlines in-flight programming.) They have developed work with Page 73’s Interstate 73, SPACE on Ryder Farm, 92Y Musical Theatre Development Lab, Musical Theatre Factory, Fresh Ground Pepper’s Playground Playgroup, The Civilians’ R&D Group, the Johnny Mercer Writers Grove at Goodspeed Musicals, Ars Nova’s Uncharted, and the Dramatists Guild Fellows Program. Julia’s other musicals include ELEVATOR HEART (2019 THML Theatre Co, 2016 NYU Tisch New Musical Theatre Workshop) and JACK PERRY IS ALIVE AND DATING (2011 NYMF Next Link selection.) Gordon’s other musical include ACROSS THE RIVER (2013 Seoul Musical Festival, 2009 Daegu International Musical Festival) and CHEER WARS (2015 York Theatre, 2009 Richard Rodgers Award.) Both are 2007 graduates of the NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Program.
