Bio
Kevin Hammonds (book/lyrics) and Kristin Bair (music) are an award-winning writing duo who met in the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop. The BMI Foundation honored their work twice with the Harrington Award (2015 Advanced Songwriting; 2017 Librettists).
Their original musical comedy “Up and Away” was developed and premiered by Pittsburgh CLO in 2018, where it had an extended 16-week run. In January 2020, the show had its West Coast premiere at Broadway Rose Theatre Company in Portland.
Kevin and Kristin are currently writing an adaptation of acclaimed photographer Hinda Schuman’s memoir “Dear Shirley” - their NAMT-funded writer’s residency with Philadelphia Theatre Company culminated in a staged reading of the show in July 2020. Previous collaborations include commissions from URock Theatricals, NYC Children’s Theatre, and short musicals for Prospect Theater Company.
Kevin has also collaborated with composer Charles Miller; their newest musical, “Under the Canvas Sky”, premiered at the London School of Musical Theatre in December 2020. Other musicals written with Charles include “When Midnight Strikes” (original cast recording available on iTunes); “Brenda Bly: Teen Detective” (published by Concord). “When Midnight Strikes”, “No One in the World”, “Hope” and “Mr. Christmas” are published by Rodgers & Hammerstein, as well as German translations published by Gallissas.
Kristin’s musical with lyricist Sarah Ziegler, “Dustin Gavins P.I.”, was produced by 4@15 Musicals/U.C. Irvine (2016), and her full-length TYA musical “Cats and Mice” was produced at a Philadelphia private school.
