From the musical Chance the Snapper (Concept and Book by Rose Freeman, Book, Music, and Lyrics by Spicer W. Carr).
Based on a true story: It’s July 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. An alligator (named Chance the Snapper) is spotted in Humboldt Park lagoon, captivating the Windy City. As one park’s official, Kadie Crokodowski (Urbs in Horto), works with Chance to find home and fight city corruption (particularly one oily alderman), we learn the meaning of allyship, friendship, community, and home.
In this song Chance sings about his “Bestest Friend” Kadie, after she agrees to let him stay. Little does our scaly hero know that Kadie has already betrayed him.
